Come learn the magical art of snow-dyeing & shibori and create one-of-a-kind textiles that will amaze you!

In this workshop you will learn how to use snow (or ice) to make stunning, evocative textile designs.

Each participant will have the opportunity to dye their own organic cotton tote bag, PFD Kona cotton (ideal for this technique & quilters) and a silk scarf. You will also have the opportunity to bring 2 pieces from home to dye.

In this workshop you will also learn a handful of traditional and contemporary shibori techniques that create a sacred geometry when combined with snow-dyeing. Shibori is the ancient Japanese form of resist dyeing that creates beautiful designs and patterns.

Your workshop registration includes:

  • PFD Kona cotton (ideal for this technique & quilters)

  • an organic cotton tote bag

  • a set of 4 linen napkins

  • The opportunity to bring 2 additional pieces to snow-dye. Dharma Trading Company provides great options if you are looking for a piece to dye. The dyes we are using are non-toxic fiber reactive dyes that only dye natural fibers. You are encouraged to bring a piece that is stained that you wish to over-dye, giving it a second life. You are invited to bring up to 2 yards of additional fabric to dye, no duvet covers please.

  • A large selection of dyes to experiment with, instructional hand-outs, best practices, care instructions, and resources.

No experience necessary, just bring your curiosity. I hope you can join us for this hands-on experience!

Note: if we don’t have enough snow, we will use ice, I used ice to dye the napkin in this photo.
