SNOW DYEING + SHIBORI WORKSHOP

In this workshop you will learn the art of snow-dyeing!

Learn how to create colorful textiles and designs with snow and non-toxic fiber reactive dyes. During this workshop we will touch on a handful of contemporary + traditional shibori techniques to create beautiful, evocative watercolor designs using snow. (Shibori is the ancient Japanese form of resist dyeing that creates beautiful designs and patterns.) You do not need any artistic background to participate and will leave with a statement scarf that is sure to be a conversation starter.

Note: this is an ideal workshop to bring kids (ages 10+) must be accompanied with an adult. I often have grandparents bring along a grandchild - this is a wonderful experience to share with family + friends.

WORKSHOP PROJECTS

  • Dyeing an oversized 52" x 52" square bamboo scarf (This fabric can be worn as a scarf, sarong, turn it into curtains, pillows, a one-of-a-kind baby quilt, you get the idea).

  • You will have the opportunity to bring 4 - 6 additional projects from home. These can be pieces you want to over-dye - - - if you want to go the zero-waste path, onesies, (this a brilliant way to transform a stained onesie), bamboo socks, pillow cases, white tshirts, (if you have a stained white sundress, this is a stellar way to give it a second life). You get the idea.

  • Snow-dyed string that can be used for wrapping gifts or for macrame.

  • Note: This workshop project includes my signature bamboo rayon (that I make my scarves from), it is regarded as the most sustainable bamboo you can get in the USA, because the effluents are 100% recycled in the process and not released into the watershed.

Grab a friend or your family (or both) and come learn the art of snow-dyeing and make one-of-a-kind pieces!
